| This qualification will provide you with the practical skills and knowledge to perform a range of tasks in cooking and customer service. You will learn about the hospitality industry, hygiene and safety in the workplace and effective communication. You will also learn skills in preparing and presenting food for buffets, operating a fast food outlet, preparing, cooking and serving a range of hot and cold foods, maintaining supplies, cleaning, and quality control. You will practice the skills you have learned in a simulated work environment or at an appropriate hospitality establishment. |

| As a general guide for full-time study course duration, a Certificate I, II or III qualification is 6 months, a Certificate IV qualification duration will vary between 6 - 12 months depending upon the course requirements, and a Diploma and Advanced Diploma will also vary between 6-12 months depending upon the course requirements. For part-time study the course duration will depend upon the number of units studied per semester. Please contact the relevant study area to determine the exact duration and unit availability. |

| Fees for publicly funded TAFEWA courses are covered under the VET Fees and Charges in 2009 policy. When studying a qualification on a full-time or part-time basis at Pilbara TAFE, there are two types of fees payable at the time of enrolment.
1. COURSE FEE

National Recognised Training: The course fee is the sum of fees for all units enrolled in by a student. The maximum course fee that a student can be charged in a semester is $570 for non-concession students and $285 for concession students.

Access and Bridging Courses: A single flat fee of $25 per semester is applied to all Access and Bridging Courses.
2. RESOURCE FEE

A resource fee may or may not be charged per unit depending on the content of the qualification. The resource fee covers the cost of materials or resources (such as workbooks or internet charges) which are provided by the college and consumed or transformed during the course of your instruction. Resource fee costs vary from unit to unit with many below $25 however, a small number of units have resource fees over $200. Some qualifications such as hospitality; art and design; and metal fabrication may incur high resource fees on particular units. Please check the approximate fees with the Client Services staff at your nearest Pilbara TAFE campus prior to enrolment.
All fees are payable at the time of enrolment. A range of payment options is available including payment by instalments on the grounds of financial hardship following the payment of a deposit to a maximum of $100. TAFEWA students do not pay HECS fees!
To be eligible for publicly funded training, students must be an Australian citizen residing in Western Australia and/or hold a permanent visa or visa sub-class of 309, 310, 785, 820 or 826. Anyone who does not meet these criteria can only be enrolled on a Fee-for-Service basis. |
